Focaccia Bread

Ingredients to make Focaccia Bread

  • 345 gms all-purpose flour
  • 6 gms salt
  • 4 gms white sugar
  • 10 gms active yeast
  • 3 gms garlic powder
  • 2 gms dried oregano
  • 1 gm dried thyme
  • 1 pinch ground black pepper
  • 15 ml vegetable oil or olive oil (optional)
  • 235 ml water
  • 30 ml olive oil
  • 5 gms grated Parmesan cheese
  • 235 gms mozzarella cheese
  • White of an egg

How to make Focaccia Bread

  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine flour, salt, sugar, yeast, garlic powder, oregano, thyme and black pepper.
  2. Mix in the vegetable oil and water.
  3. Make a soft dough until smooth and elastic.
  4. When the dough has pulled together, turn it out onto a lightly floured surface, and knead until smooth and elastic. Lightly oil a large bowl, place the dough in the bowl, and turn to coat with oil.
  5. Cover with a damp cloth, and let rise in a warm place for 20 minutes.
  6. Preheat oven to 230°C.
  7. Separate the dough into multiple equal sized balls, each weighing the same. Turn each ball out onto a flat surface, and generously add grated cheese and basil leaves.
  8. Pull the edges of the ball close together and place each ball on a baking sheet for 10 minutes to prove further.
  9. Brush top of each ball with egg white. Bake in a preheated oven at 230°C for 15 minutes or until golden brown. Let the baked buns rest on a wire rack. Serve warm.
