Braided Almond Roll

Ingredients to make Braided Almond Roll

  • all purpose flour (Maida) 1 and 1/2 cup
  • Dry yeast 1 tsp
  • butter 1 tbsp
  • Warm water 2 tbsp
  • salt 1/4 tsp
  • sugar 1 tbsp
  • Rava 1 cup
  • Green cardamom powder 1/2 tsp
  • Pure ghee 1/4 cup
  • Milk 2 tbsp
  • saffron strands - few
  • sugar 1 cup
  • water 2 cups
  • Sliced almonds 2 tbsp
  • raisins 2 tbsp
  • honey to drizzle

How to make Braided Almond Roll

  1. Mix the warm water, dry yeast and sugar together. Keep it for 10 minutes.
  2. Mix all the purpose flour, salt, dry yeast mixture and knead a dough with little water. Then add butter and knead it again. Keep it aside for 30 mins.
  3. Mix in 2 tbsp of milk and saffron strands, and keep it aside.
  4. Heat pure ghee in a thick bottomed pan, then add green cardamom powder and rava. Saute till a nice aroma develops and the rava is light brown in color. Remove it in a bowl.
  5. Heat 2 cups of water and bring it to a boil. Add 1 cup sugar and boil it till the sugar dissolves.
  6. To this, add rava, half of sliced almonds, raisins and saffron strands. Cover it and keep it on a low flame.
  7. When the rava is cooked properly and dried, turn off the stove. Let it cool to room temperature.
  8. Now divide the dough into 4 portions. Roll a portion with the rolling pin into a rectangular sheet. Cut the edges of the sheet to give it a perfect rectangular shape.
  9. Now make cuts on both the length wise sides. Keep a portion of the rava filling at the centre of the sheet and spread it length wise. Fold the cuts to make a braided roll.
  10. Similarly make other 3 rolls. Brush the rolls with melted butter and bake them at 250 degrees celsius till they are done.
  11. Remove all the rolls into a serving plate and sprinkle the remaining sliced almonds on them. Drizzle honey on them.
