Saamai Arisi Upama | Vari Tandul Upama | Samo Upama | Little Millet Upama

Ingredients to make Saamai Arisi Upama | Vari Tandul Upama | Samo Upama | Little Millet Upama

  • 1 cup Saamai Rice | Little millet
  • 3 cups water
  • 1 tblsp carrot diced
  • 1 tblsp peas
  • 3 green chillies finely chopped
  • 1 sprig Kadhi Patta | curry leaves
  • 1 tsp Rai | mustard seeds
  • 1 tsp urad dal
  • 1 tsp oil
  • To taste salt
  • 1 cup Saamai Rice | Little millet
  • 3 cups water
  • 1 tblsp carrot diced
  • 1 tblsp peas
  • 3 green chillies finely chopped
  • 1/2 Adrak | ginger finely chopped
  • 1 sprig Kadhi Patta | curry leaves
  • 1 tsp Rai | mustard seeds
  • 1 tsp urad dal
  • 1 tsp oil
  • To taste salt

How to make Saamai Arisi Upama | Vari Tandul Upama | Samo Upama | Little Millet Upama

  1. Soak the Saamai Rice for about 20 minutes. Drain and keep aside.
  2. In a non-stick Kadhai, heat oil and add rai, urad dal and curry leaves. When the rai splutters, add the carrots and peas. Saute for 2 minutes. Add water and salt.
  3. When the water comes to a boil, add the drained Saamai Rice and mix well.
  4. When this comes to a boil, keep the gas flame on low and cover and cook for 5 to 7 minutes.
  5. Check to see if Saamai Rice is cooked. Once done, transfer to a serving bowl. Serve hot with any Pickle.

My Tip:

a. If you are adding onions, chop them and add them after the rai splutters. Saute the onions till they become translucent and then add the remaining vegetables. b. You can also add diced potatoes, beans and sprouts!
