Easy Pizza Pav

Ingredients to make Easy Pizza Pav

  • 1 packet Pav buns (mine had about 6 pavs)
  • For the pizza filling:
  • 1 medium sized onion, finely chopped
  • 1/4 cup capsicum or bell pepper, finely chopped
  • 1/4 cup mushrooms, finely chopped
  • 2 medium sized tomatoes, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves of garlic, grated or finely chopped
  • 2 to 3 green chillies, finely chopped
  • 1/2 teaspoon chilli flakes
  • 1/2 teaspoon oregano
  • 1/2 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • 2 teaspoon oil (preferably olive oil)
  • Few slices of mozzarella cheese or 1 to 1 and 1/2 cup grated mozzarella
  • For the butter topping:
  • 1/4 cup salted butter, melted
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder or grated garlic (optional)
  • 1/2 to 1 teaspoon oregano
  • 1/4 teaspoon chilli flakes (optional)

How to make Easy Pizza Pav

  1. This involves 4 quick steps, making the filling, layering the toppings on the pav, brushing the top with the butter mixture and then baking it.
  2. To make the filling, in a saucepan, heat the oil and add the onions, garlic and green chillies. Saute on a medium heat till the onions are soft and the garlic is sauted well so that the raw smell goes away.
  3. Add in the chopped mushrooms with a little salt and saute for a few more seconds. Stir in the bell pepper, chilli flakes, oregano and Italian seasoning and mix it well. Fry for a few seconds more on a medium flame.
  4. Add the tomatoes, salt to taste and a pinch of sugar and cook it on a medium heat for about 1 to 2 minutes or till the tomatoes are soft and the flavors have blended well. Then remove from heat and keep it aside to cool a bit.
  5. To assemble the pizza pavs, cut the pav rolls in half. Layer the bottom half of the rolls on a greased baking pan.
  6. Start layering the pavs, first a layer of the mozzarella slices, then the vegetable toppings, then another layer of mozzarella slices on top. Top these with the top part of the pav rolls.
  7. Melt the butter in a microwave or stove top and brush the tops of the pavs with them. Sprinkle the oregano, garlic powder and chilli flakes over it.
  8. Cover it loosely with a foil. Bake at 350 degrees F or 180 degrees C for about 10 minutes, then remove the foil and bake for another 10 minutes.
  9. Check to see if the cheese has melted, if not, bake it for a few more minutes. Then pull apart the pavs and enjoy this easy twist on pizza!

My Tip:

The filling can be made ahead of time and the pizza pavs should be assembled just before baking and serving. You can either use mozzarella slices or grated. If you do not have mozzarella cheese, you can use any cheese you like. For a quicker method, just layer the readymade or homemade pizza sauce over the pavs and top it with fresh cut vegetables instead of making the filling ahead. Rest of the recipe is the same.
