Ingredients to make Baby Potato Saung (Baby Potato Masala)

  • Baby potatoes 15
  • onions 4 medium sized, chopped
  • Kashmiri red chillies 10
  • coriander seeds 1 tbsp
  • Grated coconut 2 tsp
  • salt to taste
  • tamarind (size of an amla)

How to make Baby Potato Saung (Baby Potato Masala)

  1. Grind together the grated coconut, fried red chillies, tamarind and coriander seeds to form a fine paste.
  2. Wash the baby potatoes and prick them with fork to make small holes for the salt to penetrate. Then pressure cook them by adding little salt to the water till 5 whistles blow.
  3. Take a kadai. Fry onions till they turn translucent. Add the grounded masala, salt and little water. Boil it till the onions are cooked. Then cover with a lid.
  4. Peel the baby potatoes once the cooker is cooled, then drain and add it to the kadai and saute. Turn off the flame once the ingredients blend well.
  5. Serve it hot.
