Ingredients to make Bhetki Paturi (Sheephead Wrapped in Banana Leaf)

  • Bhetki (Sheephead) Fish- 300 gm
  • Grated coconut- 1 cup
  • mustard seed paste - 2 tablespoon
  • mustard oil - 4 teaspoon
  • salt - 1 teaspoon
  • turmeric Powder - 1/2 teaspoon
  • green chillies- 5 -6 nos
  • 1 simple stitching thread
  • banana leaf - 1 large sized

How to make Bhetki Paturi (Sheephead Wrapped in Banana Leaf)

  1. Wash the fish and cut into medium sized pieces.
  2. Take one large banana leaf (not very matured) enough to wrap the fish pieces. Then cut it into rectangle pieces.
  3. Take the grated coconut in a bowl, add the mustard paste, chilli paste, salt, turmeric powder and 3 teaspoons of mustard oil. Mix it together.
  4. Place the banana leaf piece over a dish, then place the fish piece on top and cover it with the paste from both sides.
  5. Fold the banana leaf to wrap the content from all sides and tie it with a piece of thread or a toothpick. Repeat this process for all the fish pieces.
  6. Heat a frying pan coated with little oil, place the wrapped fish pieces on the heated pan and cover with a lid. Then uncover the lid, turn the wrapped fish pieces in order to roast the other side.
  7. Once the fish pieces are cooked, serve them with hot rice.
