ABOUT Assamese Fish Tenga with Cauliflower RECIPE

The most famous Assamese fish preparation is of course the Fish Tenga. Tenga means sour in Assamese. Fish tenga is a thin runny gravy with a souring agent like Lemon, Tomato, Elephant Apple (Ou Tenga) or fermented bamboo shoots. Tomato is staple.

Ingredients Serving: 2

  1. Rohu or Rui Fish Pieces 4
  2. One cauliflower - 250 gm
  3. 2 tomatoes
  4. 1 Potato
  5. 1/2 tsp Paanchforon (fennel fenugreek onion seeds cumin rai)
  6. 1 Green Chili
  7. Half a lemon
  8. turmeric powder - 1/2 tea spoon to marinate fish pieces
  9. turmeric powder - 1/2 tea spoon for the curry
  10. Salt as per taste
  11. Mustard oil - To fry the fiss & little to add again

Instructions

  1. Marinate the fish pieces with little turmeric powder and salt for 15 minutes. Half fry them in mustard oil in a pan / Kadhai. Remove the fish pieces from oil and keep aside.
  2. Boil the potato and cut into medium pieces. Cut the cauliflower into medium pieces too
  3. In the same Kadhai, add little more oil, if required. Once the oil is hot add paanchforon. Add the cauliflower and tomato pieces and fry them.
  4. Add turmeric powder. Once these are cooked, add boiled potato pieces and cook everything together for 2 minutes.
  5. Heat some water and add the hot water into the cauli flower tomato potato mixture. Add salt accordingly.
  6. The Assamese fish tenga is a thin runny curry so please keep that in mind while adding salt and water. Squeeze half a lemon into the curry now.
  7. Let the curry come to a boil. Now add the fish pieces. Let the curry boil in low flame for 6-7 minutes.
  8. Garnish with shopped coriander leaves

nice recipe but can we make it without cauliflower and potato or can we use any other type of fish
