Moong Dal and Rice Dhokhla

Ingredients to make Moong Dal and Rice Dhokhla

  • 2 cups rice, soaked overnight
  • 1 cup moong daal, soaked overnight
  • oil as required
  • 1 tsp mustard seeds
  • 1 tsp cumin seeds
  • 3-4 green chillies
  • Handful of coriander, chopped, to garnish
  • 1 tsp hing/asafoetida
  • 1 tbsp ugar
  • salt to taste
  • 1 lime juice

How to make Moong Dal and Rice Dhokhla

  1. Grind the soaked rice and dal to a dosa consistency batter and let it ferment overnight.
  2. Grease the dhokhla dish and steam it for 15 minutes.
  3. Let it cool for 5 minutes then cut and arrange in a plate.
  4. To prepare the tadka, take a pan and add oil to heat, once heated add in the mustard, cumin seeds, then the green chillies and lastly the hing.
  5. Pour in 1/2 cup of water and add 2 tsp of sugar and lime juice. Bring this to a boil.
  6. Pour this tadka on top of the dhokalas.
  7. Serve it with green/tamarind chutney.

My Tip:

Soak the dal and rice in the morning, then grind at night and keep it ready for breakfast the next morning.
