Ingredients Serving: 4

  1. 1 cup toor dal
  2. 500 gm methi leaves
  3. 1 tomato, finely chopped
  4. 1 tbsp oil
  5. 1/2 tsp mustard seeds
  6. 1/2 tsp cumin seeds
  7. 1 tsp turmeric powder
  8. 1 tsp red chilli powder
  9. 1/2 tsp hing/asafoetida
  10. 2 tsp ghee
  11. Salt to taste
  12. A pinch of sugar
  13. 1 tsp amchoor powder

Instructions

  1. In a pressure cooker, add in the washed dal, washed and chopped methi, chopped tomatoes with 4 cups of water. Cook till 3 whistles blow on a medium flame.
  2. Once the pressure releases, uncover the lid and mix the dal well with the help of a dal beater. Then bring it to a boil.
  3. Now add in the turmeric, salt, sugar, amchoor powder and mix it well.
  4. In a tadka pan, add oil to heat, then add in the mustard seeds, cumin seeds and hing. Turn off the gas and add in the red chilli powder.
  5. Add this tadka to the boiling dal and let it boil for another 2-3 minutes.
  6. Turn off the flame and add 2 tbsp of ghee. Cover with a lid and let it rest for a few minutes.
  7. It is ready to be served alongside steamed rice.
