How To Make Healthy Masala Appe

Sooji idli (Appe)that's full of vegetables

Ingredients to make Healthy Masala Appe

  • Sooji : 1 Cup
  • Curd : 1\2 Cup
  • Pinch of Soda or Eno
  • Grated carrot 1/4 cup
  • Shredded cabbage 1/4 cup
  • Finely chopped onions 2 tsp
  • Tomatoes chopped 2 tsp
  • Salt to taste
  • 2 green chillies
  • chopped coriander 2 tsp

Steps to make Healthy Masala Appe

  1. In a large mixing bowl, add soojiand curd. Mix to make a smooth paste adding little water at intervals.
  2. Keep aside for 1 hour.
  3. Add all the vegetables and mix. Add a pinch of soda and gently mix.
  4. Heat a non-stick appa-patra. Sprinkle oil in each mould. Now add a tbsp of Appe batter. Cover & cook for 2-3 minutes.
  5. Now with a spoon end flip it upside down. Cook for another 2 minutes.
  6. Remove & serve with coriander chutney or tomato ketchup.

    there is no need to keep it for an hour.Just mix 1 cup curd in 1 cup sooji. Rest remains same. It can be cooked immediately after mixing.Just drizzle a drop of oil before filling the batter.

    The batter is like Idli. if you want to fry like pakoda make it bit thick then ingredients quantity will change. Appe is for healthy lifestyle frying will lose the property :)

    To make it more crisp you can flip more 1-2 times. I like golden brown for my Boy, you can make it Brown but always at low flame :)

    Appa or Appam patra is a pan with circular cavities in it, used as a mould for appe. It is very easily available online.
