ABOUT Burmese Fish Curry RECIPE

I was born in Burma so I have a soft corner with Burmese recipes. Live fish curry gives strength to weak person and pregnant women before and after delivery. I served this dish many times and it was appreciated.

Ingredients Serving: 2

  1. Alive mangoor Fish 500 gms
  2. Chopped garlic 1/2 cup
  3. Red chilli paste 1/4 cup
  4. Turmeric powder 1 tsp
  5. Tomato paste 1 cup
  6. Sesame oil 2 tbsp
  7. Cumin powder 1 tsp
  8. Coriander powder 2 tsp
  9. Salt to taste

Instructions

  1. Take a deep pan with a tight lid. Add 2 tsp of salt and the fish, then cover the lid for a minute.
  2. Peal the skin of the fish and cut it into pieces. Then wash it thoroughly with salt and turmeric powder.
  3. Marinate it with salt and turmeric powder. Next, fry it in the sesame oil. Keep it separately.
  4. Now add chopped garlic into the oil and fry till it turns brown in colour. Then add the red chilli paste and turmeric powder. Stir it continuously.
  5. Add in the cumin powder, coriander powder, tomato paste and stir it continuously. Then pour in 1 and 1/2 glass of water and salt.
  6. Let it cook, check the consistency then add in the fried fish pieces. Cook for another 2 minutes.
  7. The fish curry is ready to be served with steamed rice.
