Jeera Rice

Ingredients to make Jeera Rice

  • Basmati rice - 1 cup
  • cumin Seeds - 3 tbsp
  • bay leaf - 1
  • Cloves and cinnamon - 2 & 1
  • garlic Ginger paste - 1 tbsp
  • salt - to taste
  • garlic pods - handful
  • onion - 1 medium sized
  • water - 2 cups

How to make Jeera Rice

  1. Wash the rice thoroughly and soak for half an hour. In a pressure cooker, add in 3 tbsp oil, add 1 tbsp cumin seeds, bay leaf, cloves and cinnamon and 3 finely chopped green chillies.
  2. Once it is nicely hot, add the rice (sans the water ). Pour 2 cups of water. Add in enough salt and ginger garlic paste. Stir well. Let it cook for 10 minutes exactly on a slow flame.
  3. In a small kadai/wok, add 1 tbsp oil, add 2 tbsp cumin seeds, onions and finely chopped handful of garlic, handful of curry leaves and 2 dry red chillies.
  4. Remove the cooked rice into a serving dish, and toss in the seasoned onion garlic mixture on top. The rice should look rich and glossy, ready to be served and enjoyed with dal fry.
