ABOUT Thengai Thuvayal RECIPE

A traditional south indian delicacy served as a side dish for idli, dosas etc.

Ingredients Serving: 4

  1. Grated coconut - 1 1/2 cup
  2. Onion - 1 chopped
  3. Green chillies - 5
  4. Garlic 4 cloves
  5. Tamarind a small gooseberry size
  6. Mustard seeds 1/2 teaspoon
  7. Urud dal 1/2 teaspoon
  8. Red chilly - 1
  9. Salt to taste
  10. Oil - 1/2 teaspoon

Instructions

  1. Heat oil in a kadai, add the mustard seeds, urad dal, onion, garlic, green chillies, red chilli and fry for a minute.
  2. Add the grated coconut, tamarind and fry for 2 to 3 minutes until the raw coconut smell goes.
  3. Grind everything together in a mixie along with salt by adding very little water to get a very thick paste.
  4. Serve with idli, dosa, puliogare etc.
