Thengai Thuvayal

Ingredients to make Thengai Thuvayal

  • Grated coconut - 1 1/2 cup
  • onion - 1 chopped
  • green chillies - 5
  • garlic 4 cloves
  • tamarind a small gooseberry size
  • mustard seeds 1/2 teaspoon
  • Urud dal 1/2 teaspoon
  • red chilly - 1
  • salt to taste
  • oil - 1/2 teaspoon

How to make Thengai Thuvayal

  1. Heat oil in a kadai, add the mustard seeds, urad dal, onion, garlic, green chillies, red chilli and fry for a minute.
  2. Add the grated coconut, tamarind and fry for 2 to 3 minutes until the raw coconut smell goes.
  3. Grind everything together in a mixie along with salt by adding very little water to get a very thick paste.
  4. Serve with idli, dosa, puliogare etc.

My Tip:

Do not over saute the coconut. Add very little water while grinding.
