ABOUT Daliya/Broken Wheat Idli RECIPE

Healthy quick and delicious broken wheat idli. It has become me and my family's favorite. Broken wheat is very healthy and nutritious. You can make this for breakfast or lunch or dinner or for kids lunch box.

Ingredients Serving: 4

  1. 3 cups lightly roasted and powdered broken wheat
  2. 1 cup urad dal
  3. Salt as per taste
  4. Hing a pinch
  5. 1 tsp eno fruit salt
  6. Urad dal 1 tsp for tempering ( optional)
  7. chana dal 1 1/2 tsp for tempering ( optional)
  8. mustard seeds 1 tsp for tempering ( optional)
  9. curry leaves for tempering ( optional)

Instructions

  1. Dry roast the broken wheat in a pan till you get a nice aroma, it will take 3-4 minutes.
  2. Let it cool down and grind it in a mixer grinder to a fine powder.
  3. Wash and soak urad dal for a few hours.
  4. Add water to broken wheat powder and make a smooth paste.
  5. Make a smooth paste of urad dal and add it to broken wheat paste we have made earlier.
  6. Add salt and hing as per your taste.
  7. Do mustard seeds and urad dal tempering if you like.
  8. Add eno just before making the idli.
  9. Make idlis just like we make rice idlis by steaming.
  10. Serve with sambhar and chutney.
