Daliya/Broken Wheat Idli

Ingredients to make Daliya/Broken Wheat Idli

  • 3 cups lightly roasted and powdered broken wheat
  • 1 cup urad dal
  • salt as per taste
  • hing a pinch
  • 1 tsp eno fruit salt
  • urad dal 1 tsp for tempering ( optional)
  • chana dal 1 1/2 tsp for tempering ( optional)
  • mustard seeds 1 tsp for tempering ( optional)
  • curry leaves for tempering ( optional)

How to make Daliya/Broken Wheat Idli

  1. Dry roast the broken wheat in a pan till you get a nice aroma, it will take 3-4 minutes.
  2. Let it cool down and grind it in a mixer grinder to a fine powder.
  3. Wash and soak urad dal for a few hours.
  4. Add water to broken wheat powder and make a smooth paste.
  5. Make a smooth paste of urad dal and add it to broken wheat paste we have made earlier.
  6. Add salt and hing as per your taste.
  7. Do mustard seeds and urad dal tempering if you like.
  8. Add eno just before making the idli.
  9. Make idlis just like we make rice idlis by steaming.
  10. Serve with sambhar and chutney.

My Tip:

Add vegetables of choice if you want.
