Sooji Halwa is a traditional Indian dessert which is prepared and served on auspicious and special occasions. Prepared for special festivals like ashtami , ram navmi and havans Sooji Halwa is a devotional offering made to a God and is later shared among devotees. Sooji Halwa is prepared by cooking semolina in ghee and adding sugar syrup and lots of dry fruits. Sooji Halwa is very popular in the India and is enjoyed by people across all age groups. This recipe of Sooji Halwa has a prep time of 10 minutes and needs to be cooked for 15 minutes. Sooji Halwa is mostly eaten for breakfast and lunch and is best after a meal of poori aloo. Sooji Halwa is also a great sweet dish for cold winter days.

Ingredients to make Special suji halwa

  • Semolina 1 cup
  • Warm Milk 1 cup
  • sugar 1 cup
  • Desi ghee 1 cup
  • Dry fruits as per choice
  • Edible silver foil (optional)

How to make Special suji halwa

  1. Soak suji in milk for ten minutes.
  2. Heat ghee, add sugar do not stir.. just wait for one or two minutes till brown bubbles appear.
  3. Immediately lower the heat and add suji then with bhaji masher start mixing sugar with the suji. Be careful with ghee.
  4. When everything is evenly mixed , the ghee will separate.
  5. Drain out extra ghee.
  6. Then mix dry fruits and garnish with silver sheet.

My Tip:

Do not apply silver foil if want to reheat in microwave.
