Adrak wali Chai (Ginger Tea)


  • 2 tsp Black tea leaves
  • 2 cups of water
  • 2 inch piece of Ginger, crushed
  • 2 Green Cardamoms, crushed
  • 3/4 cup Milk
  • 4 tsp jaggery or honey acc. to taste


  1. In a saucepan add the water along with the crushed ginger and cardamom and bring up to a boil.
  2. Boil for 5 minutes, then add in the jaggery and tea leaves.
  3. Simmer for 2-3 minutes, simmering makes the tea strong.
  4. Add in the milk next and simmer for some more time over low heat.
  5. Strain through a strainer, add honey if using and serve hot.
My Tip: Can add a pinch of black pepper too.

    Thanks a lot! It's a refreshing drink at the end of a stressful day,when you have a headache just breathe in the steam of the tea while boiling it.It goes well with evening snacks like fritters too.... :blush: :thumbsup:

    Hello Bindiya, it has been raining here and it seems we've skipped autumn and are going to cold months. Nothing like a cup of hot steaming adrakh ki chai. Your post persuades me to get ginger for morning tea and drink it with "wooooshhhh" sound the way paharis do :)
