Moong Dal Khichdi

Ingredients to make Moong Dal Khichdi

  • 1 cup Moong Dal
  • 1 cup Rice
  • 1 Onion chopped
  • 1 Green chilli chopped
  • 1/2 inch Ginger grated
  • 1 tsp Turmeric powder
  • A few cumin seeds
  • A pinch of hing
  • Water as needed
  • Oil
  • Salt

How to make Moong Dal Khichdi

  1. Wash the moong dal and rice together thoroughly. Soak for 30 mins.
  2. Heat oil in a pressure cooker. Add cumin seeds. When it splutters, add onions.
  3. Saute until the onions turn golden brown.
  4. Add the green chillies and ginger along with turmeric powder and hing. Saute for 2 mins.
  5. Drain the moong dal and rice and add to the cooker.
  6. Pour water 3:1 ratio. Cover and cook for 6-7 whistles.
  7. Uncover the pressure cooker and give it a good stir.Add more water if it is too thick.
  8. Garnish with coriander and a dollop of ghee if desired.
