ABOUT Gauranga potatoes RECIPE

A famous Hare Krishna dish named after Lord Gauranga for its golden color.

Ingredients Serving: 2

  1. 8 med sized potatoes, peeled n sliced
  2. 1tbspn oil
  3. 1tspn jeera
  4. Pinch of hing
  5. 1 chunk ginger, minced
  6. 1-2 green chilli, slit
  7. 1tspn turmeric
  8. 1/2 tspn black pepper
  9. 1/ 2 tspn paprika
  10. 600ml single creme
  11. 1/4 cup water or as required
  12. Salt to taste
  13. Cheese as required

Instructions

  1. Boil the potato slices in lightly salted water for about 8 minutes till cooked but firm. Do not over-cook.Preheat oven.
  2. Heat oil in a saucepan over medium heat, add jeera, ginger and then green chilli. Saute quickly and add hing followed by turmeric and black pepper- stir briefly.
  3. Add the single cream, salt and water. Stir into a smooth and even golden sauce and remove from the heat.
  4. Layer the potatoes in a baking tray or casserole dish and pour mixture over potatoes and gently combine. Top with a layer of cheese and sprinkle with paprika. Place in the top portion of preheated oven. Bake for 30 minutes or until the top is golden brown. Serve hot.
