Punjabi Lobiya Masala

Ingredients to make Punjabi Lobiya Masala

  • Lobiya or black eyed peas 150 gms
  • onion 2 medium sized
  • tomato 1 Large
  • garlic 10 to 12 cloves
  • ginger 1.5 inch
  • red chilli 2
  • Green chilli 2 to 4 or as per taste
  • coriander powder 1.5 tsp
  • haldi half tsp
  • Garam masala half tsp
  • 1 bay leaf
  • 3- 4 cloves
  • 2 green cardamom
  • 1 inch cinnamon
  • jeera half tsp

How to make Punjabi Lobiya Masala

  1. Soak lobiya over nite or for 4 to 5 hrs.
  2. Wash it and and put it in cooker with 4 cups water a tsp salt, bay leaf, cloves, cardamom, cinnamon and bring abt 3 to 4 whistles. They should mash easily with fingers when done. Dont throw the water.
  3. Chop onions and set them aside. Grind ginger garlic green chilli red chilli and set aside.
  4. Heat oil in a kadhai. Put jeera, followed by onions. Saute for 5 mins. Put ginger garlic chilli paste and fry till raw smell goes off. Put all the dry masalas and tomato paste. Fry till it leaves oil.
  5. Add lobiya and cook for 3 4 mins. Now put desired amt .of water from step 2 and cook the lobiya in it at simmer for 5 to 10 mins. Adjust salt. At this point you can also add degi mirch(optional)
  6. Garnish with coriander leaves.
