ABOUT Suji Sheera RECIPE

This is a sweet that can be prepared in a jiffy and is very famous in our Udupi households. Made using very minimal ingredients yet turns out delicious.

Ingredients Serving: 4

  1. Sooji 1 cup
  2. Sugar 1 cup
  3. Milk 2 cups
  4. Ghee 1/2 cup
  5. Cardamom powder 1 tsp
  6. Sliced almonds 3 tbsp
  7. Saffron a few strands

Instructions

  1. Add saffron to 3 tbsps of hot milk and keep aside.
  2. Grease a plate and keep aside.
  3. Roast Sooji with ghee on medium heat until the raw smell goes off and the sooji gets a nice golden brown color.
  4. Add milk to the roasted sooji still on the flame and let it cook.
  5. Once sooji is roasted, add sugar and saffron milk to it. Mix well.
  6. Add cardamom powder, 2 tbsp of sliced almonds and mix well.
  7. Cook until the sheera/sugar syrup leaves the edges and bottom of the pan.
  8. Once done,transfer onto a greased plate and dab it properly to level it.
  9. Slices once it completely cools down. Serve.

Adding chopped very ripe green banana to sheela adds to the taste.
