Ingredients to make Gur wale chawal (Jaggery rice)

  • rice 2 cups
  • jaggery 1/2 kg (if powder 2 cups)
  • water 2 cups
  • bay leaves 2
  • Black cardamom 2
  • Laung 4
  • almond slices 2 tbsp
  • Kishmish 2 tbsp
  • Sliced coconut 2 tbsp
  • Saunf (fennel seeds) 1 tbsp
  • ghee 3-4 tbsp

How to make Gur wale chawal (Jaggery rice)

  1. Heat ghee, add saunf, bay leaves, laung, cardamom, almonds, coconut, kishmish, washed rice and 1 3/4 cup water.
  2. When it starts boiling, cover and cook at low heat till the water is absorbed.
  3. Meanwhile, in a pan heat 1/4 cup water by adding jaggery. Stir till it is mixed in water at low heat.
  4. Add a little milk to remove impurities.
  5. When rice is cooked, add in gur water, bring to a boil, then again cover and cook at low heat till water is absorbed.

My Tip:

Let it rest covered for ten minutes then serve. It tastes good with boondi raita.
