Moong dal kichidi

Ingredients to make Moong dal kichidi

  • moong dal 1 cup (soak it for 5 mins)
  • rice - 1 cup (Soak it for 5 mins)
  • green chillies-2 slit
  • tomato 1 medium
  • jeera 1 table spoon
  • ginger 1/2 inch cut into small pieces
  • ghee 1 and half tbsp ( preferably cow ghee which has less calories)
  • water -3 cups
  • coriander leaves few strands
  • curry leaves/bay leaf 1 strand
  • red chilli 1/2 table spoon
  • salt to taste
  • turmeric 1/2 tea spoon

How to make Moong dal kichidi

  1. 1) In a deep vessel or rice cooker add ghee let it change to liquid state.
  2. 2) Add jeera and let it crackle & add green chilli, ginger, curry leaves and let it splutter.
  3. 3) Add sliced tomato and coriander leaves and let it become mushy.
  4. 4) Add red chilli and salt to that add drained moong dal and rice fry for 1 minute.
  5. 5) Add sufficient water to cook i used 3 cups for 1 cup of rice and dal and get 2 whistles.
  6. 6) Serve it with tomato chutney or simply with curd.

My Tip:

1) If you are cooking for elder or for children better add some more water. 2) it becomes balanced diet if you serve it with curds. 3) Serve hot for better taste
