Ingredients to make Navratri Specials - Vella Appam

  • Whole wheat atta 2 cups
  • Powdered jaggery 1 and 1/2 cups
  • cardamom powder 1 tsp
  • Grated coconut 1 tbsp
  • Mashed banana from one banana
  • Chopped cashews 1 tbsp
  • Fresh curd 1 tbsp
  • salt 1 pinch
  • oil for Deep frying

How to make Navratri Specials - Vella Appam

  1. Mix mashed banana, curd, jaggery, cardamom and salt, beat thoroughly.
  2. Add all other ingredients in 2 cups of water and blend well.
  3. Allow the batter to set for 1 hour.
  4. Then heat oil in a large kadai and fry ladle fulls of batter.
  5. Turn both sides and prick the surfaces, so that they cook from inside also.
  6. Serve with hot tea or offer as naivedya prasad.

My Tip:

Adjust the water consistency to get a thick dosa batter.
