ABOUT Panchamirtham with Chia Seeds RECIPE

This delicious fruit salad recipe is adapted from a South Indian dessert, ‘Panchamirtham’ that is made as a part of bhog/prasadam during festivals and pujas in temples and households in Tamil Nadu.

Ingredients Serving: 8

  1. Bananas- 1, medium sized, ripe
  2. Apple- ½ cup, cored and cubed
  3. Pears- 1 cup, cored and cubed
  4. Plums- 4 or 5, deseeded and cubed
  5. Pomegranate seeds-1/4 cup
  6. Dates- 5 or 6, deseeded and chopped
  7. Jaggery- 1 tbspn, grated
  8. Raw chia seeds- 2 tsp
  9. Lemon juice- few drops
  10. Elaichi powder- a pinch

Instructions

  1. Wash, peel, core or deseed and cube the fruits. Keep chopped banana, pears and apple in a separate bowl. Add few drops of lemon juice and toss it well to prevent them from discolouring.
  2. In a large bowl, add grated jaggery and mash it slightly. Add the fruits, elaichi powder, half of the chia seeds and mix well till jaggery gets coated well on the fruits.
  3. Sprinkle the remaining raw chia seeds over the fruit salad and serve immediately.
