Ingredients to make Madras Cucumber Dal Curry (Mogya Dali Ambat)

  • Madras cucumber - 1 small, peeled and chopped
  • Boiled toor dal - 1 cup
  • Grated coconut - 1 cup
  • Dry red chillies - 5-6
  • coriander seeds - 1 tsp
  • turmeric - 1/2 tsp
  • tamarind - 1 marble sized ball
  • garlic cloves - 6-7 peeled and smashed slightly
  • coconut oil - 2 tsp
  • salt as per taste

How to make Madras Cucumber Dal Curry (Mogya Dali Ambat)

  1. Boil the madras cucumber in a little water till soft.
  2. Meanwhile grind coconut, coriander seeds, red chillies, tamarind and turmeric with water to make a fine paste.
  3. When cucumber is cooked, add the above paste and the boiled dal.
  4. Add salt and let it boil, till the coconut paste is cooked, maybe 10 mins.
  5. Remove from stove and keep aside.
  6. For tempering, heat the coconut oil in a pan and add in the garlic. Fry till brown and pour over the curry.
  7. Serve with rice.
