Ingredients to make Dover Sole Fish Kerala style in Coconut Gravy

  • Dover Sole Fish - 500 gm
  • shallots - 1 cup
  • green chillies - 3 slit long
  • curry leaves sprigs
  • Kudumpulli (Fish tamarind) - 3 pieces
  • Grated coconut - 1 cup
  • fennel seeds - 1 tbsp
  • mustard seeds - 1 tsp
  • turmeric Powder - 1 tsp
  • chilly powder - 3 tbsp
  • fenugreek powder - 1 tsp
  • ginger - 3 tbsp chopped finely
  • garlic - 3 tbsp chopped finely
  • Red Chillies - 3 nos
  • coconut oil as required
  • salt to taste

How to make Dover Sole Fish Kerala style in Coconut Gravy

  1. Clean fish nicely and keep aside.
  2. Grind coconut, fennel seeds, turmeric powder, chilly powder and shallot together to fine paste and keep it ready.
  3. Heat pan and fry, sliced shallots, curry leaves, ginger and garlic until they become soft and tender. Once it turns little pink in color add the ground masala, mix well, cover with lid and cook for 2-3 mins.
  4. Add little water after 3 mins followed by tamarind and cook for 5-7 mins until gravy boils nicely.
  5. After 7 mins add fish pieces, cover with lid and cook for 3-4 mins.
  6. Add fenugreek powder, cover the lid and switch off the flame.
  7. For tempering, heat coconut oil, add some mustard seeds and allow to splutter, add onion, red chillies and curry leaves fry until it turns brown in color.
  8. Pour this seasoning in fish curry cover with lid and allow it set for 10 mins.
  9. Serve hot with rice.
