Ingredients to make Urad Dal Kachodi in Appam Pan

  • Ingredients for dough:
  • maida : 2 cups
  • oil : 1/4 cup
  • salt to taste
  • water as required
  • Ingredients for filling :
  • urad dal (white) : 1 cup (soaked for 4 hours)
  • salt to taste
  • red chilli powder to taste
  • Garam masala to taste
  • Chaat masala to taste
  • jeera powder : 1/2 tsp
  • saunf : 1 tsp
  • jeera : 1/2 tsp
  • haldi powder : 1/2 tsp (optional)

How to make Urad Dal Kachodi in Appam Pan

  1. Soak Urad dal in water for 4 hours.
  2. Mix maida, oil, salt in a bowl and knead it with water into a soft dough. Keep it aside for 1/2 hr.
  3. Drain water and put dal in mixer and beat it coarsely without adding water.
  4. Heat oil in kadai, add jeera and let it sizzle for a min.
  5. Add saunf. Now add coarsely beaten urad dal and fry for few mins.
  6. Now add salt, red chilli powder, haldi powder, jeera powder, chaat masala, garam masala and mix well. Keep aside.
  7. Take small ball from the dough and roll it with a rolling pin. Now put a spoonfull of mixture in the centre.
  8. Close it by joining all sides into a shape of ball, if needed wet the sides by using water and then close it.
  9. Heat little oil in appam pan and place the balls in the pan. Cook on slow flame. Drizzle little oil on all the kachodis. When it turns brown from bottom then turn the side with toothpick or spoon. Cook this side also till golden.
  10. Serve with chutney or ketchup.
