How To Make Stove Top Swiss Roll

Recipe source: frommyownkitchen. Easiest snack you will come across. Prepared in few minutes. Only change I have made to the recipe is use of honey instead of sugar.

  • Prep Time0mins
  • Cook Time10mins
  • Serves4People

Ingredients to make Stove Top Swiss Roll

  • 2 Eggs
  • 2 tbsp honey or Sugar
  • A pinch of salt
  • 4 tbsp plain flour
  • 1/4 tsp of vanilla essence
  • Filling: 3 tbsp strawberry conserve or strawberry jam

Steps to make Stove Top Swiss Roll

  1. Crack the eggs in a bowl & add pinch of salt
  2. Beat for about 30 seconds till foamy.
  3. Add in two tbsp of honey and beat on high speed till double in volume
  4. Add in vanilla essence and flour.
  5. Beat till all is mixed.
  6. Grease the non stick pan. Pour the prepared batter on it. Cover with a lid
  7. Now put the prepared pan on the lowest gas flame for about 5-6 minutes.
  8. When the batter does not stick to your finger it is ready
  9. Remove the prepared roll on a tissue paper
  10. Spread the strawberry conserve /jam on it and roll it.
  11. Leave aside for 5 to 10 minutes. Cut & serve.
My Tip: Non stick pan has to be used for this recipe. Please check pictorial method for directions.

Thanks Manjushree! I really appreciate your comments. I'll give a try again. @Huma, did you keep the receipe for rising? I am ok with eggs, but the roll was not porous at all? I am looking for an instant option, do you need to add soda to the receipe (with eggs)?

    comment 2
    Manjushree Sooraj 7 months ago

@Rukma....I have added a pinch of turmeric powder to get the yellow color..

    comment 2
    Manjushree Sooraj 7 months ago

@Rukma...sorry for the delay...I prepared the Swiss roll again using the following recipe: 2 tbsp curd, 1 plantain ( small banana), lemon sized butter, 1/2 TSP soda bicarbonate, little sugar, salt and vanilla essence. First take a bowl and add butter, soda bicarbonate, curd, salt and sugar and keep till the butter melts and blends well. Then add maida and keep it for 8 hours so that the batter will rise. The consistency of the batter should be that of a dosa batter. Heat a non stick tawa and pour the batter. once it is done transfer it to a plate. Let it cool and then apply jam coz the jam will get absorbed if applied when the roll is hot. It doesn't look as beautiful as the original Recipe but tastes really good. There is no strong taste of banana. I have uploaded the pic of the Swiss roll I prepared. pls do try if u like it :)

Sorry friends , been MIA for some personal reasons from this site since few months. Thanks for appreciation. Will try to answer each of your queries. 1) Any options to make it eggless? No. Because eggs give volume to the batter and makes its spongy. This recipe does not use any leaving agents so eggs are must. 2) Roll breaks due to cracks: You need to roll it when hot.Wrap tightly in the kitchen paper or baking paper. Kitchen towel can also be used 3) Use nonstick pan to make these rolls
