A popular dessert in India, nepal and Bangladesh which resembles glazed doughnut.

Balushahi

Ingredients to make Balushahi

  • 1 cup flour/ Maida
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1/3 cup water
  • 1/4 cup butter
  • 1/4 cup yogurt
  • 4 cardamom grounded
  • 1/4 tsp baking soda
  • A pinch of baking powder
  • oil

How to make Balushahi

  1. Mix the flour, baking powder and baking soda.
  2. Add butter and mix well.The mixture will be crumbly.
  3. Gradually add the yogurt to make a soft dough. Cover and leave for 30 mins.
  4. Knead for 2 mins. Make ball and with your finger make a small hole in the centre of each ball.
  5. Heat oil in a frying pan. Fry the Balushahi until they become golden brown on all sides, about 10 mins.
  6. Remove and place over paper towels to drain excess oil.
  7. Add water, sugar and cardamom in a saucepan and let it boil together to make a syrup.
  8. Drizzle the Balushahi with sugar syrup. Let them cool for 2 mins
