Ingredients to make Vegetable Upma (South Indian Style)

  • Rava 2 cups (roasted)
  • water 4 cups
  • onion 1 chopped finely
  • green chillies 2 chopped finely
  • curry leaves 1 sprig
  • urad dal 1 tsp
  • ground nuts 1 tbsp
  • Roasted Gram or Chutney dal 1 tsp
  • coriander leaves for garnishing
  • coconut for garnishing- optional
  • mustard seeds 1 tsp
  • oil as required
  • salt to taste
  • sugar 1 tsp

How to make Vegetable Upma (South Indian Style)

  1. Heat oil in a pan, add in the mustard seeds and allow them to splutter, then add in the urad dal, roasted gram, ground nut and fry until it turns light brown in color.
  2. Next, add in the onion, curry leaves, green chillies and fry until the onion turns little pink in color. Now add in the roasted rava and fry until everything is incorporated with each other.
  3. Add in the salt and sugar, then reduce the heat of the stove and pour in water slowly. Give it a mix with your hand continuously until it releases all the water and gets completely dry.
  4. Garnish with coriander leaves and coconut.
  5. Serve it hot with chutney or banana on the side.
