Ingredients to make Tilapia Fish in a Spicy Gravy (Tilapia Machher Jhal)

  • Tilapia fish 4 pieces
  • Chopped onion 1/2 cup
  • Chopped garlic 1 tsp
  • Chopped tomatoes 1/3 cup
  • turmeric powder 1 tsp
  • salt 1 tsp
  • cumin powder 2 tsp
  • red chilli powder 1 tsp
  • mustard oil 4 tbsp

How to make Tilapia Fish in a Spicy Gravy (Tilapia Machher Jhal)

  1. Marinate the fish pieces with a pinch of turmeric powder and salt for around 5 mins.
  2. In a pan heat oil, then fry the fish pieces and keep it aside.
  3. Heat oil in a pan, add in the cumin seeds, then add in the chopped onion, chopped garlic, chopped tomatoes and fry it a little.
  4. Next add in the cumin powder, red chilli powder, turmeric powder, salt and 1/2 cup water. Cook it in a low flame.
  5. Once the masala starts to separate from the oil, pour in 2 cups of water. Give it a nice boil.
  6. Now, add the fried fish pieces to the gravy. Let it cook for 5 mins.
  7. Serve it with steamed hot rice.
