ABOUT Whole Moong Vadas RECIPE

These crispy and yummy vadas made from whole moong or green gram make an excellent accompaniment or a snack.

Ingredients Serving: 5

  1. Whole green gram 1 cup (soaked for 4 hours and drained)
  2. Salt to taste
  3. Curd about 5 tbsp or Buttermilk about 1 small cup
  4. Baking soda a pinch
  5. Green chillies- 4 or Red chilli powder 1 tbsp
  6. Coriander about a handful
  7. Coriander powder 1 tsp
  8. Cumin powder 1 tsp
  9. Garlic minced 1 tbsp
  10. Asafoetida a pinch
  11. Oil for frying 2-3 cups

Instructions

  1. Grind the green moong dal with all the ingredients listed and make a thick batter. (Do not add much water as this will make the vadas absorb more oil.) Instead use buttermilk as required, add it accordingly keeping in mind not to make the batter watery.
  2. Shape them into small vadas using your hands or drop them in oil with a spoon.
  3. Fry them in batches on a low to medium flame in hot oil.
  4. Serve them hot with ketchup or any Indian chutneys or condiments.
