Ingredients to make Nasi Goreng/ Indonesian fried rice

  • Cooked rice 2 cups
  • 2 tbsp oil & 2 tbsp butter
  • 2 tbsp minced garlic
  • 1/4 cup of small pieces of chicken (boneless)
  • 2 eggs
  • 3 tsp of sweet soy sauce (or ordinary soy sauce with some sugar)
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1/4 cup of each, carrots, cabbage, beans and capsicum
  • 2 tbsp of sambal paste (it's easily available in big super markets)

How to make Nasi Goreng/ Indonesian fried rice

  1. In a pan, add oil and butter to heat. Fry in the garlic first.
  2. Then add in the chicken pieces and cook for sometime. Next add in 1 egg and scramble it along with the chicken pieces.
  3. Put in the cooked rice and stir well. Then add salt, pepper and soy sauce. Stir it well.
  4. Then add in the vegetables and sambal paste. Cook for sometime by mixing well, then remove it.
  5. Cook a bull's eye with the other egg and place it on an individual plate to serve. This is the way they usually serve this dish.

My Tip:

If you are veg, avoid chicken and eggs. If you want you can par boil the vegetables and chicken before hand. Sambal paste is a mixture of red fresh chillies, garlic, salt and vinegar. We can make it at home easily, if it's not available anywhere.
