Ingredients to make Puto (Filipino Steamed Cake with Blueberries)

  • Cake flour 140 gms
  • Baking Powder 1 tsp
  • sugar 100 gms
  • Milk 30 ml
  • water 130 ml
  • Handful of blueberries (optional)
  • egg whites 2
  • Vegetable oil 1/4 tsp to grease the moulds

How to make Puto (Filipino Steamed Cake with Blueberries)

  1. Boil water in a large pan.
  2. Sift the flour, baking powder and sugar.
  3. In a blender, add the milk, egg whites, water and blend for 5 mins.
  4. Now add in the flour mixture and blend it again for 2 minutes.
  5. Next, strain the batter to ensure that no lumps are formed.
  6. Lightly grease the cupcake or muffin moulds with oil. Then pour in 3-4 tsp batter in each moulds.
  7. Steam for 10 mins or insert a toothpick, if it comes out clean then it's done. Let them cool down for 2 minutes.
  8. Serve them warm with tea.
