ABOUT Rohu Fish in Mustard Gravy RECIPE

Rohu fish cooked in Mustard sauce, I have seen my all Bengali and Oriya friends make Fish curry in Mustard oil and paste. Today i gave it a try of making fish curry in mustard oil and paste with little twist.

Ingredients Serving: 3

  1. Rohu Fish :- 1 kg
  2. For the Marination:- Rohu Fish, Turmeric powder, Chilli powder and Salt 1 tsp each
  3. Mix the above ingredients and set it aside in the fridge for 30 mins.
  4. Ingredients for Mustard Paste:-
  5. Mustard Powder:- 2 tsp
  6. Ginger:- 1 inch
  7. Garlic:- 4-6 cloves
  8. Black pepper:- 9-10
  9. Grind all these above ingredients to fine paste and keep it ready
  10. Other Ingredients:-
  11. Mustard Oil to fry fish and cook the curry
  12. Coriander Powder:- 2 tsp
  13. Turmeric powder:- 1/2 tsp
  14. Chilli powder:- 2-3 tsp
  15. Salt to taste
  16. Tamarind Juice- 1 tbsp
  17. Tomato:- 1 chopped
  18. Onion:-1 chopped
  19. Water as required

Instructions

  1. Heat mustard oil in a pan, shallow fry the fish pieces until they turn golden in color. Then drain and keep aside.
  2. In the same pan, add in the chopped onion and fry until it turns brown in colour, then add the chopped tomato and fry until it becomes soft and mushy.
  3. Add in the mustard paste and fry until a nice aroma develops, followed by turmeric, coriander and chilli powder, stir continuously for 5 mins in a medium flame.
  4. Pour in a little water and place all the fried fish into it. Cover with a lid and cook it in a medium flame. After 6-7 mins add in the tamarind juice and cook for 2-3 mins.
  5. Turn off the flame and garnish it with coriander leaves.
  6. Serve it hot with steamed rice.
