ABOUT Sohan Halwa RECIPE

It's a dessert that is generally made of cornflour and is known as Bombay- Karachi Halwa or Sohan Halwa. I used custard powder to prepare it instead of cornflour.

Ingredients Serving: 5

  1. Custard powder (any flavour) - 1 cup (1 packet + some extra)
  2. Sugar - 1 and 1/2 to 2 cups depending on your taste
  3. Chopped dry fruits of your choice- 2 tablespoons
  4. Ghee - 6 tablespoons
  5. Cardamom powder - As required
  6. Water - 2 cups

Instructions

  1. Heat a non-stick wok and add the ghee. Then add the dry fruits and stir for 2-3 minutes.
  2. Keep your flame medium, then add in the sugar and custard powder. Stir it continuously and mix it thoroughly.
  3. After the sugar and the custard powder is incorporated well, add in the water. Stir continuously so that no lumps are formed.
  4. Add the cardamom powder after a few minutes while stirring continuously till the oil is separated and the halwa turns transparent and glossy.
  5. Turn the flame off. Give a standing time of 5 minutes.
  6. Transfer the halwa either in a greased container or mould. (I used my square cake mould to set the halwa and allow it to cool completely.)
  7. Cut the halwa into pieces and garnish it with dry fruits before serving.
