Ingredients to make Som Tam (Thai Green Papaya Salad)

  • green chillies - 2 tsp
  • jaggery - 2 tsp
  • tamarind pulp - 1 tsp
  • chilli powder- 1 tsp
  • Soy sauce - 2 tsp
  • lemon juice - 2 tsp
  • Chopped coriander (chopped) - 2 tbsp
  • Raw papaya (grated) - 3 cups
  • tomatoes (thinly sliced) - 3/4 th cup
  • peanuts- 1/4 th cup( roasted and coarsely pounded)

How to make Som Tam (Thai Green Papaya Salad)

  1. Peel the papaya, then slice it in half and shred the papaya. Just quickly blanch them, then strain put in cold water for 1/2 hr, this will make it crisp, then drain and wrap in a muslin cloth. Refrigerate till it's ready for use.
  2. Put in the chillies, jaggery, lemon juice, soya sauce, salt, chilli powder, coriander in a blender and puree the mixture. Keep it aside.
  3. Combine all the ingredients in a serving bowl and toss it well.
  4. Healthy and delicious papaya salad is ready.

My Tip:

Its best to eat the salad as soon as you dress it, else the shredded papaya tends to get soggy. Putting papaya in cold water and refrigerating it is important to keep it crunchy.
