ABOUT Saag chicken RECIPE

A wonderful chicken curry which can be eaten with naan or roti

Ingredients Serving: 6

  1. Water to blanch the spinach
  2. 1 kilogram fresh spinach (cut the roots and clean thoroughly)
  3. 500 gram boneless chicken (cut into 1 inch pieces )
  4. 2 large red onions (sliced very thin)
  5. 2 tablespoons ginger and garlic paste
  6. 5 tablespoons tomato puree
  7. 1 teaspoon turmeric powder
  8. 1 teaspoon red chilli powder
  9. 1 tablespoon coriander powder
  10. 1 teaspoon ground cumin
  11. 5 small green cardamom
  12. 5 small whole cloves
  13. 2 small cinnamon sticks
  14. 2 large dried red chillies
  15. 5 tablespoons vegetable oil
  16. 2 tablespoons ghee
  17. Salt to taste.

Instructions

  1. Blanch the spinach and make a puree of it.
  2. Heat oil in a wok. Put the flavourings (cardamom, cinnamon and cloves) and dry chillies into the oil. When the spices crackle add the sliced onions and cook them till soft.
  3. Add the chicken pieces and cook. Add all the other dry powdered spices, ginger garlic paste , the tomato puree and salt. Cover and cook till the chicken is done..
  4. Now add the spinach puree to the cooked chicken.
  5. Mix well and cook for 2 to 3 minutes. Turn off the heat.
  6. Pour into serving bowl, pour the ghee on top . Serve hot with naan or roti.
