Whole Moong Dal Pulao

Ingredients to make Whole Moong Dal Pulao

  • rice 1/2 a kg soaked for 30 mins.
  • green gram soaked 1 1/2 cups for 4 to 5 hours.
  • caraway seeds 1 tsp
  • garlic mince 2 tbsp
  • bay leaves 2
  • cloves 6 to 7
  • cinnamon 2 to 3 sticks
  • cardamom pods 3 to 4
  • coriander leaves finely chopped about a fistful
  • Ghee or butter 3 tbsp
  • onions 2 finely sliced
  • chilli flakes a tbsp
  • OR
  • Green chillies chopped 2 to 3
  • salt to taste

How to make Whole Moong Dal Pulao

  1. Cook the rice as usual and keep aside.
  2. Heat ghee or butter, add onions and garlic mince
  3. Saute well, add all the ingredients as well.
  4. Boil the dal with a little salt for 7 to 8 mins
  5. After a minute of sauteeing, add the dal
  6. Give it a good stir and let it cook for about 2 mins on low flame.
  7. Transfer the rice into it and mix well with light hands.
  8. Do not stir hard. Garnish with coriander and serve hot with raita
  9. I just had it with mango pickle. For the kids, i served it with a simple omelette.

My Tip:

Soaking dal is important here, the more time you give for soaking, the better it will be in texture and taste.
