ABOUT Mysore Rasam RECIPE

This rasam is very yummy. My favourite dish. Mother would make it for us. Now she is 82 years.

Ingredients Serving: 4

  1. 1 cup cooked toovar dal with turmeric
  2. 1 ripe tomato cut into pieces
  3. Small Lime sized tamarind,soaked in 1 glass hot water
  4. Salt
  5. Seasoning
  6. 1/2 tsp mustard seeds
  7. 1/2 tsp jeera
  8. 1/2 tsp whole black pepper
  9. 1 dried Red chilli
  10. 1/4 tsp of asfoetida
  11. 1 tsp corainder powder
  12. 1/4 tsp Sambar powder
  13. curry leaves
  14. Coriander leaves
  15. 1 tsp ghee
  16. 1 tsp fresh coconut scrapings..optional

Instructions

  1. Take a deep steel pot. Add tomatoes, tamarind water extract, sambar powder, salt,turmeric powder. Add cooked dal and adjust the water to get rasam consistency
  2. Switch on the stove
  3. For seasoning, take a small kadai,add ghee,add all the seasoning ingredient.add lastly the corainder powder,curry leaves and coriander and pour over the rasam
  4. Remove as soon as it froths. Do not boil
  5. Serve
