ABOUT Takoyaki RECIPE

Takoyaki is a popular street food from Osaka with bits of octopus and dough inside a slightly crispy shell, garnished chopped seaweed.

Ingredients Serving: 3

  1. 150g octopus
  2. 2 cups dashi
  3. 1 cup flour
  4. 2 eggs
  5. 2 onions
  6. 2 tbs benishoga (pickled red ginger)
  7. 1 tsp soy sauce
  8. takoyaki sauce
  9. Aonori (green dried seaweed)
  10. katsuobushi (dried bonito flakes)
  11. 1.4 tsp salt

Instructions

  1. Mix dashi, eggs, soy sauce, salt and flour with a whisk in a large bowl.
  2. Heat a Takoyaki pan with oil and coat the pan.
  3. Pour the batter in each hole of the pan.
  4. Add octopus pieces in the batter of each hole and sprinkle green onions and ginger over.
  5. Cook over medium heat for 2 mins and then turn over and cook for 5 mins.
  6. Place the cooked Takoyaki on a plate and srpinkle Anor.
  7. Serve with store-bought or homemade Takoyaki sauce.
