ABOUT Garbanzo beans/ Kala channa fritters RECIPE

As vegetarians and with growing kids who are picky eaters it is sometimes tough to think of loading up proteins into the diet.

Ingredients Serving: 6

  1. One cup of Black garbanzo beans
  2. 1 tsp of cumin/ jeera
  3. 2 dry red chilli
  4. Salt to taste
  5. 1 bunch of coriander leaves
  6. Oil for deep frying ( any neutral oil of choice)

Instructions

  1. Soak the black garbanzo bean/ kala channa for four hours till they are plump and soft.
  2. Drain and set aside.
  3. Toast the red chilies to release a spicy aroma. Take care not to burn them.
  4. Into the food processor add the drained beans, coriander leaves, salt, cumin seeds and the toasted chili.
  5. Pulse till coarse without adding any water. Push down all the grits to get a similar texture as you pulse.
  6. Set oil to come up to medium heat.
  7. Form the coarse batter to form oblong shapes.
  8. Drop to deep fry . Gently flip over and fry till golden. Serve hot.
