Tornado Dogs

Ingredients to make Tornado Dogs

  • Hot dogs or frankfurters - 3
  • All-purpose flour/maida - About 150 gms
  • garlic powder - 1 tbsp
  • Mixed herbs - 1 tsp
  • Red chili flakes - 1 tsp
  • salt - to taste
  • water or milk for dough - 3 to 4 tbsp
  • Vegetable/Canola/corn/Sesame oil - for frying
  • Ketchup/Dip/mustard/Ranch - for dipping
  • Skewers for the sausages

How to make Tornado Dogs

  1. Thaw the hot dogs if frozen, and cut them in half.
  2. Poke a skewer through each half.
  3. Using a sharp knife, hold blade-side down over the bottom end of the hot dog at a slight angle.
  4. Now, start cutting the sausage, gently twirling the sausage, so you end up with a rough spring-sort of shape.
  5. Spread open the sausages, making space for the dough to be stuffed in between the cuts/slits.
  6. To make the dough, add the garlic powder, herbs, chili flakes and salt in, and mix quickly.
  7. Add water, or milk, and gently knead into a soft, smooth dough.
  8. Make 6 equal portions, and roll each dough ball into a smooth rope.
  9. Roll the rope around the hot dogs, in the spaces you just made.
  10. Pinch the ends to seal them together.
  11. Heat a pan with oil, and let it come to medium-high heat.
  12. Gently slide the skewers into the hot oil and fry on medium heat for 2 to 3 mins, or until they turn crisp and golden.
  13. Drain on to a paper towel, and serve hot with choice of dips and sides.

My Tip:

Go crazy with flavours; you may add grated cheese or cheese powder in the dough. You may even use pork sausages and add pizza seasonings in the dough and serve with pizza sauce for a Pepperoni pizza on sticks ;)
