Ingredients to make Kalmi Saag / Water Spinach in Bengali style

  • Fresh kalmi saag 3 bunches
  • potato 1 medium
  • onion 1 sliced lengthwise
  • ginger paste 1/2 tsp
  • tomato 1 chopped
  • Kalonji , methi , cumin seeds , coriander seeds , yellow or black mustard seeds together 1/2 tsp
  • turmeric powder 1/4 tsp
  • cumin Powder 1/2 Tsp
  • turmeric powder 1 tsp
  • chilli powder 1 tsp
  • salt
  • oil 2 tsp

How to make Kalmi Saag / Water Spinach in Bengali style

  1. Wash kalmisaag leaves.
  2. Chop the leaves and stems
  3. Cut potato in cubes
  4. Chop tomato
  5. Heat oil
  6. Fry potatoes until red and crispy
  7. Keep aside
  8. In the same pan add whole spices
  9. Add onion slices , saute until brown
  10. Now add turmeric powder , coriander powder , cumin powder
  11. Also add chilli powder
  12. Saute for 3_4 mins
  13. Add kalmi saag leaves
  14. Cover and cook for sometime
  15. Add tomato pieces
  16. Also add potatoes
  17. Again cover and cook for 7_8 mins
  18. Add salt
  19. Serve hot with steamed rice
