This gravy turned out extremely delicious and everyone at home simply enjoyed thoroughly this matar makhana with rotis for dinner.

Ingredients Serving: 4

  1. 30 - Puffed lotus seeds/Foxnuts/Makhana
  2. 1 cup - Green peas (frozen)
  3. 2 Onions (chopped roughly)
  4. 2 Tomatoes (chopped roughly)
  5. 1tsp - Ginger garlic paste
  6. 1 tsp - Red chilly powder
  7. 1/2 tsp - Garam masala powder
  8. 1 tbsp - Coriander powder
  9. Salt as per taste
  10. 1/2 tsp - Shahjeera
  11. 2 Bay leaves
  12. Oil as required
  13. 1 tbsp - Butter
  14. Few coriander leaves (chopped)
  15. For the paste Grind:
  16. 1/2 cup - Yogurt
  17. 5 Cashewnuts
  18. 5 Almonds

Instructions

  1. Grind the ingredients given under the list to grind to a smooth and fine paste. Keep aside. Heat oil in a pan, fry the lotus seeds for few minutes until they turns crispy, keep aside.
  2. In the same pan, heat oil, butter, shahjeera, bay leaves. Meanwhile grind the onions and tomatoes to a bit coarse paste.
  3. Once the spices turns brown, add ground onion-tomato mixture, ginger garlic paste, cook for a few minutes until the raw smell goes away.
  4. Add the frozen peas, roasted lotus seeds to the cooking paste along with red chilly powder, garam masala powder, coriander powder and salt. Cook for a few more minutes.
  5. Now add the ground almond-cashew paste to the pan and cook everything on simmer. Add enough water to adjust the thickness of the gravy and cook on simmer for a few minutes.
  6. Put off the stove, add the chopped coriander leaves, give a stir. Serve with hot rotis.

Tried it today... Its delicious... My husband never tries new things...he likes the typical flavours...but this he loved too !
