Ingredients to make Shepu Vade / Spicy Dill and Bengal gram fritters

  • 1 cup split and skinned Bengal Gram / chana dal
  • A small bunch of fresh Dill Leaves
  • 1 dried red chili (De seeded)
  • ½ inch ginger piece
  • ¼ teaspoon cumin seeds
  • salt to taste
  • 2-3 tablespoon oil
  • • ½ inch ginger piece

How to make Shepu Vade / Spicy Dill and Bengal gram fritters

  1. Wash and soak the Bengal gram in enough water for at least 3 hours.
  2. Wash the dill leaves. Remove stem and chop finely.
  3. Place the soaked and drained Bengal gram in a grinder jar with ginger, cumin seeds , red chili. Grind it coarsely without any water.
  4. In a mixing bowl take the ground Bengal gram . Add salt and chopped dill leaves and mix well.
  5. Heat a paniyaram mould. Add few drops of oil in each cavity.
  6. Spoon out the batter into each cavity. Cover cook for 4-5 minutes on low to medium flame.
  7. Now flip each vada with a spoon and let it cook for another 4-5 minutes without lid.
  8. Repeat the same for rest of the batter. Serve the Shepu vada hot with a cup of tea and dip of your choice.

My Tip:

Fry the vada on a low to medium flame if using a paniyaram mould , so that it gets cooked well from inside.
