Broken Wheat and Oats Idli

Ingredients to make Broken Wheat and Oats Idli

  • Broken wheat - 2 cups
  • Oats - 1/2 cup (grind oats to a fine powder)
  • yogurt - 1 cup
  • baking soda - a pinch
  • salt - 1/2 tsp
  • For the Tadka :
  • ghee - 1 tbsp
  • mustard seeds - 1/2 tbsp
  • jeera Seeds - 1/2 tbsp
  • hing - a pinch
  • green chillies - 2 (chop them finely)
  • Few curry leaves and coriander leaves

How to make Broken Wheat and Oats Idli

  1. Heat 1 tsp of ghee and saute broken wheat until raw smell goes off.
  2. Once they are cooled down mix wheat, oats in a bowl.
  3. Add salt, yogurt, baking soda and half cup of water to the bowl.
  4. The batter need not be too thin as a dosa batter. Let it be a bit thick.
  5. Now heat ghee in a tadka pan.
  6. Add mustard seeds and jeera seeds to the pan.
  7. Let them splutter and then add the rest of the ingredients
  8. Saute for a minute. Mix this tadka with batter
  9. Rest the batter for at least 20-30 minutes before you start making idlis
  10. Broken Wheat idlis are very filling and can be served as an evening snack to kids too
