Ingredients to make Green Pulao Using Brown Rice

  • 1 Cup Brown rice ( I have used Dawaat brand )
  • 1 big onion, sliced
  • 4 green chillies, chopped
  • 1 Cup Chopped spinach leaves
  • 1 cup mint leaves
  • 1/2 cup chopped coriander leaves
  • 1/2 Tsp Shajeera
  • 2 tsp ginger garlic paste
  • 2 1/2 cups water
  • salt to taste
  • 2 1/2 Tsp olive oil

How to make Green Pulao Using Brown Rice

  1. Wash and soak the brown rice for 1 hour.
  2. Heat 1/2 tsp oil in a pan and add the chopped greens ( spinach, mint and coriander ) along with the chopped green chillies.
  3. Saute them for couple of minutes in a low flame and remove from the pan.
  4. Cool and grind into fine paste. Keep aside.
  5. Heat the remaining oil in the same pan and add shajeera followed by sliced onion. Saute till it turns translucent and add ginger garlic paste.
  6. Saute till the raw smell goes off.
  7. Now add the ground paste followed by salt, mix well and cook for 5 minutes.
  8. Drain water from the soaked brown rice and evenly spread in an electric rice cooker.
  9. Now spoon in the green masala evenly on top of the rice.
  10. Add the measured water followed by lemon juice and adjust salt.
  11. Gently mix well and cook till the electric cooker mode turns to keep warm.
  12. Once done, switch off the cooker and keep it aside for 5 - 10 minutes.
  13. Serve hot with onion raita.
