Maash (Urad) Dal Tadka

Ingredients to make Maash (Urad) Dal Tadka

  • White lentils or urad dal soaked overnight 2 cups
  • garlic chopped 1 tsp
  • ginger grated 1 tsp
  • salt to taste
  • onion large 1 finely sliced
  • coriander for garnishing
  • Green chilies finely chopped 2
  • Dry red chilies 3-4
  • asafoetida 1 pinch
  • ghee 2 tbsp

How to make Maash (Urad) Dal Tadka

  1. Boil the dal and keep aside.
  2. Heat the ghee in a pan.
  3. Add the dry red chillies and asafoetida.
  4. Now add in the onions and the rest of the ingredients, after the onions turn light pink in color and nicely sauteed.
  5. Transfer this into the dal boiled beforehand and mix well. Garnish with lots of coriander and serve hot with rotis or naan.
  6. Green chilies can be replaced with chili flakes if you desire.
