How to make Horse gram Soup/Rasam

  1. Wash and soak the horse gram in water for 3 to 4 hours or overnight.
  2. Pressure cook the soaked horse gram with water and little salt for 3 to 4 whistles. once it is cooked drain the horse gram and keep aside. Don't discard ,you can use the drained horse gram to make salad.
  3. Grind coriander seeds, cumin seeds, pepper , garlic pods and red chillies to a coarse powder and keep aside.
  4. In a pan take the tamarind juice and let it boil . add the ground powder and allow it to boil for 2 minutes. Then add the drained horse gram water and let it boil for 1 more minute. Check the salt and add more if required.
  5. Switch off the heat . Garnish with coriander leaves and serve hot.

My Tip:

You can avoid red chillies and add pepper powder while serving. Instead of tamarind juice you can add finely chopped tomatoes and add 1 tsp lemon juice while serving. This can be served with rice or you can take as soup also.
