ABOUT Horse gram Soup/Rasam RECIPE

This soup or rasam can be taken with rice or as a drink. Its main ingredient is horse gram which is wonderful weight reducing pulse variety.

Ingredients Serving: 2

  1. Horse Gram 1/2 cup
  2. Tamarind 1 small lemon size
  3. Corainder seeds 1/2 teaspoon
  4. Cumin seeds 1/2 teaspoon
  5. Pepper 1 teaspoon
  6. Red chillies 1 or 2 (optional)
  7. Garlic pods 2 or3
  8. Salt as required
  9. Water 3 cups
  10. Coriander leaves(finely chopped) 1 hand ful

Instructions

  1. Wash and soak the horse gram in water for 3 to 4 hours or overnight.
  2. Pressure cook the soaked horse gram with water and little salt for 3 to 4 whistles. once it is cooked drain the horse gram and keep aside. Don't discard ,you can use the drained horse gram to make salad.
  3. Grind coriander seeds, cumin seeds, pepper , garlic pods and red chillies to a coarse powder and keep aside.
  4. In a pan take the tamarind juice and let it boil . add the ground powder and allow it to boil for 2 minutes. Then add the drained horse gram water and let it boil for 1 more minute. Check the salt and add more if required.
  5. Switch off the heat . Garnish with coriander leaves and serve hot.
